Red Star Belgrade hooligans attack Manchester City fans in cafe with 'wooden sticks'

Manchester City fans were reportedly attacked by Red Star Belgrade supporters in a cafe in troublesome scenes on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola's side round off their Champions League group stage campaign with a trip to Serbia as they look to secure six wins out of six.

City fans travelled in numbers for the away trip but some were caught up in violence on the eve of the European fixture.

Serbian news outlet Telegraf report that police looking for a group of men, who are Red Star fans, who attacked opposition supporters.

They are said to have been masked and armed with wooden sticks, with around 30 said to be involved in the attack.

Eyewitnesses say that they hit about 20 City fans on their 'heads and bodies' before fleeing to the city centre.

Footage of the attack was posted on social media, with some fans appearing to fight back inside the cafe.

Glasses can be heard being smashed in the background as the fighting ensued with the mass of hooliganism seen outside.

Security cameras in the cafe are also said to have recorded the scenes which took place at around 11pm local time on Tuesday night.

Less than 24 hours later, Red Star and City took to the pitch, with both sides knowing their fate in the competition.

Guardiola's side are through to the last 16 having finished top of Group G, with Red Star sitting rock bottom.

City took the lead after 19 minutes as academy star Micah Hamilton scored on his senior debut for the club.
